About Us

Government backed Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme

If eligible, a specialist Retrofit assessor will visit your property and check, the building fabric and heating features, then provide us with the information to determine your property energy rating.

1. Retrofit Survey

The survey to allow us to design the best system for your property. We have to ensure the fabric is done first (loft and walls). Then we see what heating upgrades we can provide.

2. Retrofit Design

Once the design has been completed we send our experienced team of fully qualified and Trustmark approved specialist contractors to complete the installation measures.

3. Installation

Post install, our team will present you, your insurance backed guarantees, allowing you peace of mind that each installation measure is backed by an accredited consumer code.

ECO4 Journey

Solid Wall Insulation can significantly improve thermal efficiency by adding a layer of insulation to the interior walls, reducing heat loss and enhancing comfort without affecting the building's exterior.

Internal Wall Insulation

Cavity wall insulation involves filling the gap between the inner and outer layers of external walls with insulating material, which can dramatically reduce heat loss, making homes warmer and reducing heating bills.

Cavity Wall Insulation

External wall insulation involves applying an insulating layer & protective finish externally, improving thermal performance and updating the exterior appearance without reducing internal living space.

External Wall Insulation

Loft insulation is a simple and effective way to reduce heat loss, lower energy bills, and increase the energy efficiency of a home by laying insulating material in the attic or loft area. As heat rises , up to 25% of building heat loss can be attributed to lack of sufficient loft insulation.

Loft Insulation

Room in roof insulation (SWIP) involves insulating the sloping surfaces of rooms within the roof, transforming previously cold, underused spaces into warm, comfortable living areas and improving overall home energy efficiency. This method can transform unused loft spaces.

Room in Roof Insulation

Loft storage solutions (SWIP) refer to the innovative methods of creating usable storage space in the loft or attic while maintaining the effectiveness of the insulation, often involving raised platforms or dedicated storage units that protect insulation integrity.

  • The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a UK Government energy efficiency scheme  to help reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.

It means that energy companies are obliged to fund energy efficiency measures in the homes of those who can least afford the cost of these upgrades.

If you would like to find out more about the Government's ECO Scheme, please see the below link to Ofgem's website.

The ECO scheme works by placing a Home Heating Cost Reduction Obligation (HHCRO) on medium and large energy suppliers. Under HHCRO, obligated suppliers must promote measures that improve the ability of low-income, fuel-poor and vulnerable households to heat their homes.

This includes actions that result in reduced energy usage, such as installing insulation or upgrading a heating system. The overall target for these measures is divided between suppliers based on their relative share of the domestic gas and electricity market.

  • ECO funding may be available to anyone at any income level, when they are in receipt of certain benefits.

These benefits requirements are mentioned below and regulated by the governing body Ofgem.

In order to benefit from ECO 4 you must own your own home or have the permission of your landlord or management company and be in receipt of one of the following benefits:

    • Child Benefit

    • Pension Guarantee Credit

    • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)

    • Income Related Employment & Support Allowance (ESA)

    • Income Support (IS)

    • Working Tax Credit (WTC)

    • Child Tax Credits (CTC)

    • Universal Credit (UC)

    • Housing Benefit

    • Pension Credit Savings

  • The ECO Flex Scheme helps those householders who are not in receipt of means tested benefits but who are living on a low income and are vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold home. Under ECO4 Flex, a participating Local Authority (LA), can refer private tenure households that it considers to be living in fuel poverty or on a low income and vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold home.

If you would like to find out more about the Government's ECO LA Flex Scheme, please see the below link to Ofgem's website.

    https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/environmental-and-social-schemes/energy-company-obligation-eco/homeowners-and-tenants/faqs-domestic-consumers-and-landlords

Households referred to the LA/DA as housing a person suffering from a severe or long-term ill-health condition which is adversely affected by living in a cold home.

The person’s severe or long-term health condition must be due to:

    • A cardiovascular condition (heart conditions etc)

    • A respiratory disease ( COPD, etc)

    • Limited mobility

    • Immunosuppression

The LA/DA must complete a declaration certifying that it has received a referral from one of the following:

    • A person registered in the General Practitioner (GP) Register

    • A Scottish Health Board

    • A Welsh Health Board

    • An NHS Foundation Trust

    • An NHS Trust

  • To qualify under ECO4 your property must have an EPC rating of  E, F or G. Applications are only being accepted for properties with an E, F or G rating.

If your property has an EPC rating of A-C you do not qualify, as in order to get this rating your property will already be well insulated and adequately heated.

All existing EPCs can be viewed on the government's  (England and Wales) or the  (Scotland).

    https://find-energy-certificate.service.gov.uk/find-a-certificate/search-by-postcode?lang=en&property_type=domestic

If you don’t currently have an EPC a Registered Installer can estimate the rating when you apply and they’ll produce an EPC for you if the application is successful.

  • What kind of insulation will a grant cover?

The grants are very generous for the properties that qualify and the grants can include:

    • Air Source Heat Pumps

    • Boiler Upgrades (non-condensing boilers and for homeowners only)

    • Cavity wall insulation

    • Electric storage heaters (homeowners only)

    • First time central heating (providing there was a gas connection prior to 31 March 2022)

    • Internal wall insulation

    • Loft insulation

    • Room in roof insulation for a loft that has been converted into a room

Homeowners can install these new, efficient boilers for free. This initiative aims to reduce household energy consumption and lower carbon emissions by replacing old, inefficient boilers with newer models that have superior energy efficiency, leading to significant savings on energy bills.

boiler upgrade

Under the ECO4 scheme, eligible households can install these high-efficiency units for free.  These modern storage heaters are much more efficient than older models, featuring advanced insulation materials to retain heat longer and smart controls to release heat only when needed.

electric storage heaters

First-time gas central heating installations for homes with pre-2022 gas connections include new 'A' rated boilers, radiators, smart heating controls, and complete installation services. Eligible households can upgrade to this efficient system, reducing energy bills and enhancing comfort.

Solar panel systems, when installed with electric storage heaters or air source heat pumps, are free under the ECO4 scheme for eligible homes. This setup boosts energy efficiency, slashes bills, and supports eco-friendliness by harnessing renewable solar energy in tandem with advanced heating technologies.

solar panels

Air source heat pumps, paired with solar panels and available free under the ECO4 scheme for eligible homes, offer an efficient, eco-friendly heating solution. This combination maximizes renewable energy use, reduces utility bills, and aligns with environmental standards, providing sustainable home heating.

air source heat pumps

Hybrid systems, combining highly efficient air source heat pumps with gas backup for colder months, free under ECO4 for eligible homes. This setup ensures energy efficiency and sustainability, using renewable sources primarily and gas to boost heat when necessary, providing continuous, cost-effective home heating.
